for Paragon Singers’ 2026 Theatrical performance

Dates: Monday night rehearsals in May and June 2026, performance July 11th 2026
Fee: £3000, plus travel and/or accommodation expenses covered as required
Paragon Singers, a leading chamber choir based in Bath, is seeking an inspiring and imaginative director to lead a special performance project in Summer 2026: Purcell’s Lament
This ambitious new work will blend British composer Henry Purcell’s music with an original script by writer Stewart Harcourt to create a rich, immersive performance experience. We are looking for a director with a bold artistic vision who can help shape and stage this unique piece in collaboration with the choir and creative team.
About Us
Paragon Singers are known for our adventurous programming and high musical standards. We perform a wide range of repertoire, from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary choral works, and regularly work with instrumentalists and guest artists. The group is directed by acclaimed conductor Sarah Latto.
What We're Looking For
We invite applications from directors with:
Experience directing musical or interdisciplinary performance
A strong creative vision and collaborative working style
A passion for vocal music and storytelling through performance
An interest in reimagining historical material for contemporary audiences
This role would suit an early or mid-career artist who wants to be an integral part of this production. This is an exciting opportunity to create a show for our group of 30 singers, alongside 2 professional soloists and an orchestra of 10 players.
The Role
Lead the creative direction and staging of Purcell’s Lament
Collaborate closely with the music director, writer, choir members, soloists and committee
Contribute to the development of the performance concept and audience experience
Attend and lead Monday night rehearsals in the run-up to the Summer 2026 performance (schedule negotiable)
